Welcome to Ms. A's "About Me"

Hey there! So, this is my 1st year at South West Preparatory, and I am beaming to be teaching 4th grade. A little about me... this is my 2nd year of being a lead teacher in the classroom; my first year I was a 1st grade teacher. I have been in education for about 3 years and this upcoming school year will be my 4th.

Before teaching I worked at an amazing elementary school in Los Fresnos, Texas; which also happens to be my home town. I started as a library clerk and in my second year I got promoted to a dyslexia aid due to my background in English. During this 2nd year I realized how rewarding it was to watch my students reading level grow, and to see their excitement when they are successful. 

My passion for English Language Arts blossomed in middle school, and only grew once I reached college. I received my bachelors in English and I minored in Art and graduated in May of 2020 from the University of Rio Grande Valley.

Now I'm going to dive a little deeper, educators have their reasons for going into education, and mine is my younger brother. He struggled all throughout his 14 years of schooling, and had little to no support from his teachers. My mother struggled between work, driving him to outside-of-school tutoring centers to help him succeed, and essentially jump through hoops just to make sure her child got the education he was entitled to. This took a toll on the whole family and I saw first hand what happens when a child is (seemingly) being left behind. (Mind you this was back in the early 2000's) but it was still heart breaking. This is what drives me to be the best version of myself as a teacher for my students. I have the passion, the drive, the education, and the means to help them reach their potential. I am excited to see what the new school year brings forth and to watch my kiddos grow.
