Southwest Prep Student Named National Math Star in Elite Texas Program

Seguin, TX — September 3, 2024: Southwest Preparatory School-Seguin is thrilled to announce that Micah Haug, a remarkable 4th-grade student, has been selected as a 2024 National Math Star. Micah is now part of an exclusive group of just 61 students from across Texas chosen for their extraordinary mathematical talents and potential.

Being named a National Math Star is a prestigious honor that comes with a decade of incredible opportunities. Micah will have access to fully funded advanced math classes, mentorship from leading mathematicians, STEM summer experiences, and more—an investment of over $100,000 per student. This program is designed to cultivate the next generation of top mathematicians, scientists, and engineers by providing the resources and support needed to excel.

The competition was fierce, with over 1,300 students from across Texas vying for a spot. The 2024 Stars represent a diverse group of students from 27 different school districts, including public, charter, and private schools, as well as homeschoolers. On average, these young math prodigies scored above the 99th percentile on the Cognitive Abilities Test, demonstrating their exceptional abilities.

“We couldn’t be more proud of Micah,” said Dana Fornabaio, Principal of Southwest Preparatory School-Seguin. “His passion for mathematics is truly inspiring, and we’re excited to watch him thrive as he embarks on this incredible journey.”

In addition to celebrating Micah’s achievement, Southwest Preparatory School would like to recognize other talented students from our district who also applied for the National Math Stars program. While they were not selected this year, their hard work and dedication deserve special mention: Jordan Contreras, Madilyn Rodriguez, Hezekiah Lebruce, River Wilson, Adalee Perales, Azariah Lareau, Maxwell Davis, and Zyne Rodriguez.

“Each of these students has shown remarkable promise in mathematics,” added Christinn Jean, Superintendent of Southwest Preparatory School. “We are immensely proud of their efforts and look forward to seeing what they will accomplish in the future.”

Southwest Preparatory School remains committed to nurturing the academic talents of all its students, and we are excited to support the next generation of leaders in mathematics and beyond.
