It is a tremendous honor and privilege to nominate Dillon Jackola, an outstanding Student of Southwest Preparatory School-Seguin, for the Superintendent’s Award. Dillon epitomizes the best of our campus, and his value to our school community is unmatched. As the Seguin campus counselor, I strongly believe in the importance of guiding students to develop high character and moral standards. Dillon is a young man who has done this. Dillon’s academic ability showcases a sharp mind with an eagerness to learn and pay it forward. When Dillon sees a need, he quickly adapts to aid his fellow Eagle. This is evidenced by the fact that he is currently taking the time to tutor another. His willingness to pass on his knowledge base is unrivaled. My numerous interactions/discussions with him have allowed me to be witness to his genuine love and respect for not only his fellow classmates, his school environment but also his local community.
When it came time to highlight Black history, Dillon was quick to volunteer to write an essay on this topic and present it to the student body/faculty, and staff during morning assembly. He ended it by challenging himself and others to do better. Dillon was voted our current student council president, a role he takes seriously by keeping others accountable and motivated.
During Earth Day celebrations Dillon and several other students went off campus to beautify our local community. Colleagues who have had the pleasure of working with Dillon in their classrooms all remark on his academic abilities and praise his classroom contributions. Thus, it came as no surprise to me when asked to nominate a student for the Superintendent’s award that Dillon was at the forefront of being considered for this award.
While his academic achievement is indeed noteworthy as he is currently college ready according to the college readiness exam, he recently passed. I have also been impressed by his outstanding work ethic and drive. Dillon does not need to be told to do something. Rather, he sees a need and acts on it. Still even more impressive about Dillon is his perseverance to learn from his mistakes by taking accountability and rising above. This embodies true growth! Still, he takes his personal growth a step further by again paying it forward. This was evidenced recently as he presented his peers with a PowerPoint he created and researched on the dangers of vaping.
Dillon is often front and center in many different initiatives. He was the first to wear the Eagle mascot costume, making morning assembly a fun start for all. In heat or cold, he endures, “No, I can’t do that,” is not never uttered by Dillon. He once donned an extremely hot gingerbread man costume for several grueling hours, all in the name of Christmas and making the little ones smile.
Dillon is a testament to the character and drive Southwest Preparatory envisions for each student. Dillon is self-motivated, employable, self-reliant, and displays good citizenship and decision-making skills (and when in doubt, he turns to his safe people at school for guidance). Dillon reflects on these characteristics as a result of incorporating principles learned. Therefore, it is without a doubt that I recommend Dillon Jackola, a worthy candidate, for the Superintendent’s Award for the 2022-23 school year.
